Guide to Writing Tales

Welcome. Here you can find the guide for writing tales to be added into the SD wiki. As you may see, there is no actual format for writing them, unlike the Incident Reports. That is because tales can basically be whatever you wish as far as story and formatting go.

However, there are a few key rules to follow when it comes to tales.

  • All tales must be about the SD, or involve SD in some way. If they are not about the SD, then they belong on the SCP Foundation wiki, rather than the Security Division wiki.
  • While it is not mandatory, it is heavily recommended that your tales should be written in the third person, as is standard for SCP tales.
  • Absolutely no NSFW or excessive gore are allowed in tales. While NSFW is prohibited entirely, Directorate members will decide what is excessive gore.
  • Treat tales from a roleplay perspective, try to imagine what being an SD would be like in real life, though feel free to throw in some game elements as well.
  • Looking at other tales, both from the SD wiki and the SCP Foundation wiki, is a great way to understand what is acceptable, and what the story-driven aspect of tales looks like. Click here to be taken to a random SCP tale.
  • While most tales do not include some of the more unique and unusual formatting seen in some SCPs, that does not mean you're not allowed to include them if they matter to the tale.
  • Once you have made your tale, submit it into the SD Discord under the #story-submission channel.
